That strong desire, almost a need, is why religions exist at all (according to one point of view). We want so very much to believe there is more to it than "just" this.

There are things you can believe in: science, art, process. The nature of existence takes a bit of faith. There are still many conundrums in science; we're very far away from being able to figure it all out (and we may never do so). There is room for mystery and wonder and questions.

The big question being: what comes next? It's easy to believe that something continues. The *you* that has continued all these years is more than mere substance; your substance changes constantly (did you know you have a new pancreas every 24 hours?). One can believe that that pattern of energy that comprises "me" might somehow continue.

But beyond speculation... who knows!

Quite a few worthy topics there; each of which could rate its own comment thread. Education is a hot topic with me. Good place to start.

Nice point about computer skills. I suspect most jobs today involve computer use, and as you point out, companies are increasingly using computers to interact with employees (potential and current). We assume email and web (if not text and twits) as a standard form of communication. Many in non-computer jobs use them daily to look up and access job-relate information.

It seems fair to require it in prospective employees in any but the most manual jobs. It doesn't seem like it needs to be costly. Paper-less approaches should cost less.

That we're even discussing this highlights the deeper problem: our education system is seriously broken. The general minimum education level is extremely low, and that is a fault of the system and our failure to view education as vital and necessary.

I don't think it is too much, it just makes me worry more about you but I can sure understand the thoughts behind it. It is very heartwrenching, I will say that. I can relate to it more than you can imagine. I think that is what our lifes are about in most ways; on the path to find out what it is all about. I too sometimes feel like it would be better to just give in and join the idea of blind faith. But every time I do really start thinking that way my damn heart tells me something different. I guess I am not made that way. I am very sorry that you are so torn about this, not to mention the wrist problem, that's a whole other thing, but your heart/soul/essence is even more important. I could say much more on this but alas it is time to go do my part to try and bring some direction to my little part of the world.
